FOCUS Piloting: A Quick Guide for Teachers
The FOCUS project is currently in its piloting phase. Teachers are invited to test the FOCUS Digital Educational Games in the classroom and complete the FOCUS Online Training Programme.
Below you can find the main steps, documents and links needed to complete both piloting activities.
1. Pilot the FOCUS Digital Educational Games
The FOCUS Digital Educational Games are designed for children aged 6-12 and support foreign language learning through activities focusing on skills such as phonological awareness, critical thinking, decision-making, abstract thinking, memory and orientation.

What do you need to do?
Step 1: Plan your classroom piloting
Before starting the piloting process, please complete the shared planning sheet. If you plan to test more than one game, please add a separate entry for each one.

Step 2: Read the Teacher Guidelines
Before the classroom activity, please read the piloting guidelines, with particular attention to Sections 5 and 6.

Step 3: Prepare your micro-lesson
Complete the Micro-Lesson Planning Sheet before the session.

Step 4: Prepare the participation record
Print the participation sheet and prepare anonymous child codes (e.g. CH01, CH02). Children’s full names should not be included in project documentation.

Please also ensure that the necessary parental/guardian permission has been obtained before children participate in the piloting.
Step 5: Test the game(s) in class
Use the selected game(s) in a structured classroom activity and complete all required fields in the participation record.
Step 6: Optional photo documentation
If possible, take one or two photos during the classroom piloting for project documentation purposes. Children’s faces must not be visible in the photos. You may photograph the classroom setup, devices/screens, hands using the game, or the activity from an angle that does not identify any child.
Step 7: Record your observations
Complete the Teacher Observation Notes during or immediately after the activity.

Step 8: Collect short feedback from the children
Ask a few simple oral questions or use short smiley-based feedback after the activity. Children do not need to complete a long written questionnaire.
Step 9: Complete the evaluation form
Please complete one evaluation form for each piloting lesson/session.

2. Complete the FOCUS Online Training Programme
The FOCUS Online Training Programme supports foreign language teachers in developing their knowledge and skills around learning difficulties, inclusive teaching and Digital Game-Based Learning.
What do you need to do?

Step 2: Create an account and enrol in the course
Access the Online Training Programme
Instructions for registration and enrolment are available in the guidelines above.
Step 3: Complete the course
Complete all required modules and activities and obtain your certificate of completion.
Step 4: Evaluate the programme
After completing the course, please fill in the evaluation questionnaire.

Your feedback is an important part of the FOCUS piloting process and will help improve the project tools before their finalisation. The official project plan foresees piloting feedback being used to refine both the Digital Educational Games and the Online Training Programme.
